Integrative Oncology Support Update 1-22-12

Formatted Version

Dear Patient,

As promised, I will be sending the Integrative Oncology Support Updates as I process the research.

Some will be more formal, with long rambling commentary, and some will be quick informal notes of the study and my thinking. This informality is what will allow me to keep this dialogue relevant and updated as I process the huge amount of information that comes in.

Intravenous Vitamin C
Very exciting study on intravenous vitamin C (IVC) for cancer. The study was specifically on pancreatic cancer, but was designed to determine if there was any negative effect from doing IVC concurrently with chemotherapy.

Many oncologists will claim that they don't want patients doing IVC during chemo as there was a theoretical risk it would counter the effects of the chemo. This article, along with previous articles give strong support that this is not the case, and that IVC is a powerful treatment in the fight against cancer.

The higher dose they use in this trial is what we use in the clinic for our cancer IVs.

Ipriflavone for Bone
I have had the necessity recently to relook at the literature and ask my naturopathic oncology colleagues for additional tools to use specifically to protect bone from spread of lesions from breast cancer. Most of the nutrients for bone strength we've already been using, however one nutrient we had not been using is ipriflavone, which is derived from soy. It has been shown to strengthen bone and stop spread of bone lesions
